Pokémon: Initial impressions of Paradox Rift

Published on November 4th, 2023

Paradox Rift is the new Pokemon set that released yesterday. Here’s our initial impressions based on current prices. Not all expensive set cards have been sold on eBay.

Paradox Rift is broadly valuable

As of publishing time, 40 cards out of 266 were worth more than $3. Current pack price on tcgplayer is $3.59. The total value of cards with prices $3 or more on pricecharting.com is $363.05. We estimate the set will have a starting value of about $800, which is behind Scarlet & Violet 151 and ahead of every other Scarlet & Violet mainline set. It will take about 222 packs to complete the full set.

Top three valuable cards

The top 3 valuable cards as of 11/3 are Garchomp Ex 219 ($40), Groudon 199 ($20), and Minior 201 ($19.99). We’ll update again early next week. I expect some new favorites to move up.

In random order, here is what has caught our attention.

Final thoughts

Some desirable cards are reasonable in price at this early juncture. Supply is readily available. We’re going to wait to get some of our desired cards as singles. The set does look exciting for players and collectors. If the value of the set holds, it will be the second highest value set in the Scarlet & Violet era. The artwork is great, with diverse styles throughout.

Happy collecting!

Sincerely yours,
