Scarlet and Violet Pokémon 151 came out yesterday. Reviews are good to great. Pull rates seem to be very tough. This might be one set where we get every card from 1 to 151. Collecting the whole set, including illustration rates may be a doable challenge. Good artwork and tough rarities will keep the value of good cards high, which is great for collecting. Here are some reviews.
Beyond the art, it seems like this set will be catnip for collectors. Its cards contain flourishes that make collecting this expansion just like filling out the Pokédex in the video games. The set is numbered by each Pokémon’s official number in the Pokédex.

First of all, it means everyone’s favorite Kanto region Pokemon is going to be represented here. Secondly, it makes the prospect of collecting a full set and proudly displaying it in a binder even more enticing. As a video game fan first and foremost, this expansion definitely plays into my ‘gotta catch ‘em all’ mindset.

It’s packed with some of the best-looking cards we’ve ever seen, a nostalgic festival of Gen I monsters drawn with such love.
In a disappointing move, the international release of 151 does not include the Japanese version’s wonderful reverse-holo poké ball pattern, which came with a chance that they could instead feature master balls, and as such become much more valuable.
However, in a very pleasing move, we’re getting a good chance of pulling some holo energy cards in the regular energy slot. These are just lovely, and best of all, feature old-school Wizards of the Coast-style swirls in the holo pattern.

As a collector who only dabbles in the competitive scene, I’m excited to have a new opportunity to complete a set that feels cohesive and meaningful. Every card I pull, be it common or triple-secret rare, gets put in my binder in number order. Each pack I open is a journey to a new route or town in Kanto where I hope to discover fresh Pokemon and add them to my collection. This is the first set that’s made me feel like I gotta catch ‘em all in a long time.

Pokemon Scarlet and Voilet 151 Elite Trainer Box comes with beautiful packaging, the chance to pull gorgeous illustration rares from the original 151 Pokemon while delivering good value, but doesn’t quite pack the kind of nostalgic punch we had hoped for.

As a borderline late Gen X / early Millenial person, I wasn’t into collecting Pokémon as a kid. I got Star Wars cards whenever I could. We know which horse was the winning bet. The chance to collect all the originals in an updated way sounds appealing, now that I have the funds and time to so so. It’s with my own sense of nostalgia that themandalorian may be too old to play Pokémon anymore, even as she likes collecting the cards.
In a world torn apart by greed, climate pollution, war, inequality, and ignorance, Pokémon 151 may be a reprieve from the madness and an appeal to simpler days. We look forward to our Pokémon 151 ETB and poster collection when they come in a few days. The endless march of more Pokémon cards forever will ensure only those cards that stand out will hold value.
We found out that tcgplayer (6) buys back cards. This may be a good way to get rid of dupes and cards we don’t want to collect. Last piece, we highlighted GameNerdz is buying back cards too. We’ll do a comparison after we find some cards to sell in another piece. We know GameNerdz gives more for store credit than cash, and will check the same for tcgplayer.com.
TCGplayer Trade-In (formerly known as the TCGplayer Buylist) is the fastest way to get cash for cards with no need to create individual listings or set specific prices.
