Pokemon: Paldea Evolved booster box review

We had high hopes here at smilingdad for the new Paldea Evolved tcg set. We had good pulls from Scarlet and Violet boosters and elite trainer boxes. Paldea Evolved has been a disappointment. As others have noted, pull rates for the beautiful, full art cards are much lower than the Scarlet and Violet set. The best card we got was Chi-Yu Ex, a $20 value card. At graded level 9, it’s worth $35, and grade 10 $127. At that level, it makes sense to get graded. Most likely it will be break even at PSA.

themandalorian spent $120 on a preorder booster box. She said the art was great, and some cards will be good for our decks. But, at that price, it didn’t make sense to buy another booster box. tcgplayer has a sale ending today for 8% off. Individual packs are down to $2.50 a pack, and the booster box is down to $105 for 36 packs. The sheer size of the set, 193 cards before illustration rares makes it daunting. The art is amazing and unique. I’m sure it will be popular with collectors.

Folks might be trying to pull Iono, who hits the trifecta of likability, playability, and rarity. Illustration rare Iono’s are going for $114.

So far, our fledgling Pokémon business is at a slight monetary loss. We got four cards graded from Beckett Collectibles. We’ll have a follow up post on the grading process and what we learned. themandalorian is learning a lot about value, demand, organization, maintenance and marketing, all valuable items for business. From that perspective our fledgling business is a success.

Wishing you well in your tcg pulls.

Sincerely yours,

smilingdad
