Over the first week of Putin’s Folly, I was intently reading everything on the Ukraine invasion. We all awoke to a new, uncertain reality. Some of our readers may have asked, what’s going on? Why the switch to the blog?
We show our support to Ukraine by carefully using our energy, allowing liquid natural gas and other fossil fuels to be transported to Europe.

Our focus was sustainable personal finance and ethical capitalism. That goal has not changed. There is a large opportunity to act in ways to help the planet, help our finances, while promoting companies that do well to help all stakeholders.
The war changed our focus, to help the people of Ukraine in all ways. They deserve all of our support and love. The tragedy they face is unseen in our lifetimes.
Our original goals were peacetime goals. They have a secondary place in wartime, as we’ll show. The invasion makes energy a topic of geopolitical discussion. The world is looking at sanctioning Russia’s oil and gas sector. Russia cleverly made itself the chief energy supplier to many European countries. Europe can not sanction Russian fossil fuels without harming its own people. Russia is gleefully selling fossil fuels to fund its economy and war. Over 40% of Russia’s economy is dependent on this one revenue source. It makes negative sense using your resources to fund your enemy in war.
Reducing energy usage is now a primary goal for democratic people. The secondary goal is temporarily ramping up all energy sources until there is enough renewable energy to power Europe and allowing them to move away from Russian energy.
As we have explored on this blog, there are many ways to reduce energy usage, including EV’s, solar panels, batteries to capture solar, better insulating our homes, maintaining our energy appliances, and heat pumps. We will be exploring these topics in detail. There can be no sustainable personal finance and minimal ethical capitalism while a senseless war rages. War is not sustainable. We show our support to Ukraine by carefully using our energy, allowing liquid natural gas and other fossil fuels to be transported to Europe.
Thank you to our dedicated readers who have given me the inspiration and hope to keep writing. I trust you understand the reason for why we changed our blog. We will shift our focus to how we can help Ukraine, reducing energy, and from time to time talking about sustainable personal finance. When a durable peace comes, we will switch back our coverage.
With peace and love,
