What to expect from Apple next week

Next Tuesday Apple will be launching their new iPhone, the 6s.

Predictions range all over the place, much of them based on hardware leaks. I think the hardware is well known but what will be interesting is the software that powers the hardware. Apple has rented a very large space, capable of seating 7,000 people.

Here are my predictions based on all the rumors I have read.

  1. iPhone 6s launches with improved processor, front and rear camera, memory, stronger frame, and Force Touch. Storage options remain the same. Perhaps a new rose gold color.
  2. New iPad Mini 4, iPad Air, and large screen iPad Pro, with the latter supporting advanced stylus touch.
  3. I think the star will be a revised Apple TV. Rumors point to a touch based remote, faster processor, Siri and Homekit integration, universal search, and an App Store. Apple Music integration would be a bonus.
  4. Removal of old Apple Watch bands, new colors and a price reduction.
  5. On the software side I think iCloud has to make changes in pricing and storage to keep up with Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.

All of these things are exciting and it makes it hard to be disciplined. I bought our iPhones in cash last year and will probably hold on for another two years. That way I can be blown away by the speed, battery life and new features when I upgrade. I have decided to save cash to buy a new Apple TV by selling off our Wii and Xbox and saving the rest from our paycheck. Sometimes it is more satisfying to save up and anticipate something than buying it immediately. It’s certainly a new feeling, something I am teaching my eldest about.

Have a great day!
